Our workshops provide people with a safe, non-threatening setting in which they can:
- Learn and practice the skills
- Restructure their communications patterns, thought patterns, and the way they see and relate to the outside world
- Explore new paradigms, approaches
- Express and examine the disconnects between their thoughts, emotions and behaviors
- Question their traditional attitudes and beliefs
- Look at, develop and test new ways of reacting to situations, new behaviors
- Learn to cope with, adjust to, problems and pressures
Our focus is on three basic communications skills, which we call the Golden Triangle :
- Empathic listening – listening to others from their point of view, rather than your own, without judgment, criticism or evaluation
- Authentic expression – communicating accurately what is going on within you from your own personal frame of reference, as opposed to externalizing your experience
- Unconditional acceptance of self and others – being able to accept your own and others feelings and expressions, without censoring and judgment
The skilful use of these three tools is almost miraculous in its ability to respond to the most complex issues of relationship. Their use empowers the person who is using them in any relationship. At the same time their use by one person also provides the other person in that relationship the space with which to respond in an empowered fashion.
These skills allow one to create empowering relationships anywhere – at work, at home or in the community . We see examples of this over and over again in our workshops. We never cease to be amazed by the power of these tools and their ability to resolve the most challenging relationships issues in an empowering fashion.
The transformational power of this process arises from its ability to engage people on four interrelated cognitive and emotional levels. By changing the way in which people use:
- Language, it impacts
- Thinking, which affects
- Attitudes, which influence
- Behavior
